My Letter
My "W" stands for WHAT I will be missing this weekend at "home"
Every year for as long as I can remember, I have been at Canandaigua Lake on the Saturday night before Labor Day to be part of the Ring of Fire.
The Ring of Fire expresses gratitude for the beauty of the lake and re-enacts the celebration of the Seneca Indians who, more than a hundred years ago, had lit their festival fires on Bare Hill and around the lake to give thanks for good hunting, good fishing and for the summer harvest.
The signal is when the bonfire is lit on the hill...then everyone around the lake lights their flares. Even though they are illegal, there are always fireworks going off at some of the private residences and no one seems to care.
There are families, young and old, sitting on the rocks...wallking along the shore, some on the lake in their boats...admiring the beauty of it all and bidding farewell to summer.
I miss home so much. Sometimes you never really appreciate what you have until it's so very far away...
Have a safe and wonderful weekend everyone.
(I know this isn't sexy, but then again if you slip on one of the rocks, you can get real WET)
